El Capitan

A 10-year-old girl who climbed Yosemite National Park's famed El Capitan says she was overwhelmed and emotional when she reached the summit.

Selah Schneiter said she trained mentally and physically for nine months before climbing the challenging 910m granite wall with her father and a family friend.

Matariki

This week we learnt about Matariki ( the Pleiades), Matariki is a Maori name for a cluster of stars. It rises in mid-winter and for many Maori, Matariki heralds the start of a new year;  Traditionally, it was a time to remember the dead and celebrating a new life. The names of the 7 stars of Matariki are Ururangi, Waipunarangi, Waita, Waiti, Matariki, Tupu-a-nuku and Tupu-a-rangi.
