SAILING
On the 1st of May the year 7 and 8 went sailing at Okahu Bay, The bus trip took 20 minutes to get to the destination. When we got there, we met our sailing instructors, Steve, Justin and JR. We made a semicircle and did icebreakers, we needed to introduce ourselves by saying our name and our favourite colour.
We then got to our boats and assembled it, lucky for me, JR rigged my boat. It was the Topaz, Taz for short. The instructors gave us morning tea after work. After the short break, Steve then gave us wet suits from the tallest to the shortest.
The boats have trailers to underneath them, we pulled the boat to the shore and set them free with 2 people in each boat. After 2 hours on the water, Steve and Justin pulled boats back to shore two by two ad ate lunch.
After the afternoon meal, the instructors told us we could go out and capsize our sailboats. We capsized our boats a number of times, we then went back to shore to change back into our clothes. We then gathered at the benches outside to our Instructors calling us one by one to get our certificate.
Many thanks to The Lion Foundation, Rotary, Volvo and Zhik for sponsoring the day.
